London, Sep 7 (IANS) Sedentary men who work beyond 45 hours a week double their risk of dying from heart failure. However, men who keep fit or exercise and work long hours face no increased risk of dying from cardiac conditions.

The study examined data for 5,000 men -- aged between 40 and 59 years from 14 different companies -- which included their fitness levels over 30 years, reports the Daily Mail. The men did cycling exercise tests to assess their fitness and provided details on the average number of hours they worked every week, according to the journal Heart.

Around 70 percent of men worked between 41 and 45 hours a week, while around 20 percent worked longer hours. Over the course of the study, there were 587 deaths from heart disease caused by the narrowing and hardening of arteries.

Experts found that men who were unfit were at the greatest risk of dying from heart disease, particularly if they worked long hours.

Those who were both unfit and worked more than 45 hours a week were more than twice as likely to die from the disease than men working fewer than 40 hours.

And men who worked 41 to 45 hours a week had a 59 percent higher risk of dying from heart disease compared to those working under 40 hours.

Physically fit men working longer hours were 45 percent less likely to die of heart disease and 38 percent less likely to die of other causes than those who were unfit.

The findings, by a team from the National Research Centre for the Working Environment in Denmark, held true despite factors likely to influence the results, such as work stress and living conditions.

Six new passport offices for State

The Union Government has agreed to convert the existing passport collection offices at Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Nizamabad and the extension office in Hyderabad into full-fledged passport offices. In addition, a full-fledged passport office will be set up at Cyberabad.

This decision followed the State government’s request for establishing additional passport offices as there was heavy rush at the Regional Passport Office in Secunderabad. Disclosing this to reporters here on Monday, Home Minister P. Sabitha Reddy said some anti-social elements were running passport rackets, taking advantage of the inadequacy of the system to deliver passports in time. Eight persons were arrested in connection with one such racket unearthed recently.

She said that it was decided, at a meeting convened earlier in the day by Chief Minister K. Rosaiah to review the law and order situation, that a special crime wing would be opened in Hyderabad to deal with economic offences which were on rise these days. She said the CID was expected to submit in four to five days its inquiry report on the violence in the Mahbubabad incidents.

Mrs. Sabitha Reddy said that as part of a new strategy adopted by the government to deal with left wing extremism, strenuous efforts would be made to provide jobs to youths in villages to wean them away from the influence of naxalites.Various government departments would train youth to improve their skills to enable them get jobs. Also, welfare and developmental schemes would be given a thrust in rural areas.

At the same time, Mr Rosaiah wanted the police to be tough and swing into immediate action wherever the movements of naxalites were noticed. He noted that the Maoist activity was now confined to the Orissa-Andhra border, spilling over to Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and East Godavari districts. Maoist activity, however, was less compared to last year.

The last few days has seen a talk making rounds about the Chennai Mozart A R Rahman and how he has been focusing on wrapping up the work of ‘Robo’ while his other venture ‘Komaram Puli’ has been on the backburner. In this process, the dissent was expressed by the power star fans as well.

It is heard that after hearing about Rahman’s ‘Robo’ priority, Pawan Kalyan fans fired the music maker. However, it is now being seen that the fans of A R Rahman are not keeping quiet and they are giving their counter attack. This is being seen in the form of the various blogs, forums etc.

They say that the real cause for delay is not Rahman but Pawan Kalyan. They add that the star delayed the film due to politics and other activities and it is ridiculous to blame Rahman for the delay now. Well, as long as the film is worth the wait, bygones will be bygones.

The overseas rights of Rajni Kanth-Aishwarya Rai starred ‘Robo’ are sold out at Rs 5.7 Cr. The rights are only for US for Telugu and Tamil versions of the film. There is a buzz that a person had already bought the complete overseas rights. Now the news is that person who bought the overall overseas rights is going to create mayhem through media for some one selling off the US rights to some other without his consent.

Already this sort of pandemonium was seen with respect to the Telugu rights of the same movie. Initially a producer’s name was announced, later condemned and finally went to some one else.

This sort of confusion is bringing in lot of hype for Robo till its release.

Many in Andhra Pradesh might not be knowing about Tamil actress Meera Nandan. She is considered to be one of the most homely girls of the entire Kollywood film industry.

So it is natural that many men would get smitten by her looks! Incidentally a debutant director by name Chellamuthu, who was directing her in his first movie, fell in love with her.

At last he could not bear it and proposed to her over phone. However she revealed that she has already been engaged to someone else and rejected his love. He wished her all the best and forgot the matter there itself.

But within the next couple of days, everyone in Chennai came to know about this and even some newspapers published about his proposal! He is now very angry with her and said that she is damaging his name. But on the other side, Meera Nandan, claims that she told no one else other than her mother! So who leaked the news baby?

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has hired professional hunters to catch monkeys, after several complaints of monkey menace were reported.

The hunters are reportedly from Uttar Pradesh and the drive will be taken up under the guidelines of the forest department.

Denizens residing in different localities in the twin cities have been facing the simian problem for a long time. Perched at the top of apartments, buildings, telephone and electric wires, the monkeys are constantly on the lookout for eatables and attack anybody carrying food items.

A few cases of people falling prey to monkey attacks and getting injured hav been reported.

Dr P Venkateswara Reddy, chief veterinary officer of GHMC told Expresso they have hired as many as 15 teams of professional hunters. “We will pay Rs 650 to Rs 750 per each monkey caught and the hunters will catch the monkeys by setting up cages as per guidelines of forest department,” he added.

The forest department has given permission to GHMC officials to catch at least 500 monkeys, which are creating menace at Padmarao Nagar, Osmania University campus, Koti, DBR Mills, east and west Maredpalli, Vidyanagar, Begumpet and many localities in Secunderabad.

Reddy said the teams had already caught 200 monkeys in the past ten days and the operation will continue. After catching the monkeys, GHMC shifted them to Amberpet where forest officials ensure monkeys are segregated into males and females.

They are kept in separate cages and sterilised. “We are planning to free them in the forest area of Khammam-Chhattisgarh as per guidelines of the forest department,’’ Reddy said.

The move to check the monkey menace began after hundreds of complaints reached the GHMC. Dr JD Wilson, assistant director, Monkey Complaints Cell said, “Every day we are receiving as many as five to eight complaints of monkey menace.

We are concentrating our efforts on specific localities from where we received complaints.

According to reports, hundreds of monkeys are coming out from the Narsapur forest area in Medak district and moving to different places in twin cities.

They stay on trees in areas like DBR Mills and many localities in Secunderabad and keep moving in residential areas in search for food.
